FINISHED!!!
All under wraps now until the big day! I'll post a picture then! Oh dear....not quite finished after all. When we had the 'final' fitting on Sunday, we realised I had forgot to sew in the back lacing!!! Back to work!
Well, apart from the final hem pressing it's all done! Satin Back Bow is here all finished. I can't show you the dress, of course, it's now under wraps until the big day!
Well, I fitted the sewn bodice lining on my daughter and it was perfect.....but oh dear! It was transparent...definitely not a good idea for a wedding dress!
So back to square one. I decided I'd try cutting the bodice from the skirt of the charity shop dress: there was plenty of material there. Then came the problem of cutting the bodice lace out of the lace of the same dress. No good! The scalloping just wasn't right. But there was enough lace in my 1986 veil...so now all bodice pieces cut out and ready to start sewing together. A few months ago my daughter asked me if I would make her wedding dress. We looked at all the beautiful materials and soon realised how expensive it was going to be. So what could we do to make it for less? I volunteered the material in my own wedding dress...it was used nearly thirty years ago and was just lying in the wardrobe. Then my daughter spotted a dress in a charity shop which had loads of lace, but a broken zip. A bargain at £20! So now all I have to do is turn two wedding dresses (plus some new material for the lining, bow and flounciing) into one! Several friends have asked me how I'm getting on with it, so I'm posting a few pictures here as I go along. You can keep up with with my progress here! Today I got as far as tacking the bodice lining together so that we can try it for size...if all ok I can get going for real!
Where's the most interesting place you have ever had a WI meeting? I've only attended meetings in Village or Town Halls....but I know that others are a bit more adventurous. Can you tell us about it?
Next Tuesday (13th August) we have Saly Newall talking to us about her 'Simply Icecream', which she produces in Bonnington in a variety of flavours.
Our competition is to come up with an idea for a new flavour of ice cream. What would be your choice? |
