This month we had two competitions: the original one for May which was 'A May Posy', which you can see to the left, and our birthday card competition which got missed out when we had to cancel the March meeting due to snow. Congratulations to the ladies who put in a special effort to make their cards stand out by making their own. And well done to Cherry who came first in both competitions! The posies made us all feel very summery!

Our meeting on Tuesday was a very busy one, thanks in part to our having had to cancel our March meeting because of the snow. Still, April appears to be getting warmer, even if a bit wet. So we had two speakers at our April meeting, Alison Ranns talked about the Caldecott Foundation (see our 'Past Events' on the What Do We Do? page) and Wendy Holmes told us about the WI's East Kent Emergency Group, which would coordinate WI members' help and support, should a real emergency occur anywhere in Kent. Our competition was won by Cherry and me jointly- a fun competition where we had to submit a celebrity baby photo.........they all looked so cute! Our recipe of the month is for a vegetarian curry, main ingredients in the photo above, which I love making, mainly because, as well as tasting yummy, it 's so easy to freeze. Click here for the recipe: Recipe of the Month Do let us know if there is any particular recipe you would like, or recipes for particular ingredients; one of us is sure to have one. This month's recipe is a firm favourite with those who go to the coffee mornings at the Village Hall. Joyce often makes them for this event. They are held once a month on a Saturday morning to raise funds for the Hall. Do let us know if you try the recipe. What types of recipe do you enjoy trying most? Sweet? Savoury? Let us know which. We have decided to have a recipe of the month page. Some years ago the Woodchurch WI got together some of their favourite recipes and made a small booklet of them. We are now going to publish some of them online.
Do let us know if you try any. Our first for February is Joy's Apple Crumble. An old favourite but appropriate as there are still bramley apples about (they are picked in late Summer, then cold stored) and they are absolutely delicious as well as being good for you! Joy's crumble is a little different as she uses oats in her topping. If you haven't tried oats in a crumble mix before, have a go at this...it really adds a nutty crunch to the top. If this inspires you to find out more about bramley apples, take a look at the Bramley Apple Site: loads of info and lots more recipes. What grey weather we have been having...so it was good to see smiley faces at our February meeting on Tuesday. We all enjoyed John Pearce's talk about Matt Monro; even our youngest member who was born after Matt Monro's death.
Congratulations to Cherry who won this month's competition: my favourite Matt Monro's song. I'm sure she was pleased that she didn't have to sing it to us, just explain in words why she liked it! Welcome to the Woodchurch WI website.
